#hike34 of my #52hikechallenge2022 and a new personal record time wise for the trip up is in the books. I'm not sure when I started tracking it but, somewhere north of 35 minutes i decided I wanted to make the trip in under 30. It seemed to take forever and I got stuck at 30 minutes and some change for what seemed like an eternity. Then, I broke 29 and was elated. Then 28. I track my hikes with GaiaGPS and screenshot the timer at the top as my "official time" (incredibly scientific, I know, but it works for me). Today, at the summit, I couldn't get my phone unlocked, then couldn't get to the GaiaGPS app and, when I finally got the screenshot, I was at 27:52. Still my personal best but I would really have liked to know how long it actually took. Anyway, great hike and awesome views. Only 18 away with a couple of months to go.

Thats awesome and congratulations on your new personal record!

Congrats on your personal best @nathanu!

I am stuck at 39 official hikes.  Last weekend I went to the Maryland Renaissance Festival instead of hiking.  It was still outdoors all day, and walked about 7 miles worth, but I can't count that on my 52 Hike Challenge log.

This past weekend the remnants of Hurricane Ian have been hovering just off the coast, and it's been raining steadily for 5 days now.  My rain gauge has registered over 5" of rain so far and it's still coming down.  No damage thankfully, but with high temps in the low 50s with near constant rain, I stayed in and watched football.  This upcoming weekend looks much better for outdoor activities.

@rob6 glad to see you on here and definitely glad to hear that you've fared well from the storm!

As far as the hike, I'm starting to get into panic mode about making it to 52 and am trying to pack in hikes anywhere that I can.  I've got a hike planned from Testnatee (or Hog Pen) Gap to Unicoi that'll count as two (one to Blue Mountain Shelter and one from the shelter on to Unicoi) and then I'm hoping to get at least two per week to Pine Mountain, but I'm going to be cutting it close.

Got #hike35 of my #52hikechallenge2022 in the books today. I was a little worried about not taking an outer layer but the weather cooperated and it was awesome. Trees are definitely ready for fall. One interesting thing is that the Pine Mountain trail has been renamed to the Greg Anderson trail syst, which is pretty cool.

It was a chilly evening for #hike37 of my #52hikechallenge2022 but it's in the books. I'm getting over a cold and don't feel like I was at 100% but, when I got to the top, my time was 28:12, a new record. I *estimated* my last at 27:50 but it was an estimate. This one though was by the book, 28:12 up the red trail (ummm, I mean, hiking sticks trail?). Anyway pretty stoked. Definitely getting chilly and thisay have been my last of the season with just shorts and a base layer.

Note : I just discovered that I've missed a hike somewhere.  According to my tracks in GaiaGPS, I'm actually on 37 so, a very cool little surprise.

Not the hike I planned but got #hike38 of my #52hikechallenge2022 in today at the Pine Log Creek Trail. Lots of color (also lots of leaves on damp rocks) AND several new benches, which was kindof cool.

Got #hike39 of my
#52hikechallenge2022 in the books today on Pine Mountain. Perfect weather, clear skies and surprisingly warm. Sun is definitely dropping a little earlier and next week I suspect I'll be night hiking part of the way down. Also kindof cool, my time today was 27:35 and I had to stop and make a small adjustment early on that probably cost me a minute or so. New goal is 25 🙂

Got to log #hike40 and #hike41 of my #52hikechallenge2022 this weekend AND got a hiking buddy to go with me. It was supposed to be a kindof chilly but mostly dry weekend with a 50% chance of rain and up to a tenth to a quarter inch possible. Instead, it rained from the time we got out of the shuttle drivers car until basically this morning. That said, had some awesome fellowship with a real, genuine stand up guy that literally saved me from falling off a mountain. Anyway, got about 12 miles in yesterday, camped at the Blue Mountain Shelter and then another 2.5 or so to come out at Unicoi Gap. I'm pretty sure the trail is getting more technical (and harder) the further north I go and only have ~60 miles in the books so far if you count the Approach Trail. Met a couple of SoBo thru hikers just days away from the finish including a lady that was 72 years old and KILLING IT!! Further proving age is just a number and, if you want it, all you've gotta do is work for it. Already planning the next leg of the adventure north.

Got #hike42 this evening and am now officially in the single digits, I've only got nine left to get in before 19 January 2023 and I will have officially completed the #52hikechallenge2022. Today's hike was up Pine Mountain again but it was my first time making the hike up in the dark. Very cool and, with all of the leaves, I was thankful for the little signs on the trees on the way down marking the trail.
