I'm at 28 hikes now but will be adding 29 and 30 this weekend.

Quote from Rob6 on August 27, 2022, 12:25 amI just did a 1.25 walk around a newly established nature trail at the Harford County Agricultural Center. It's a very nice trail, designed more for families than anything, so I won't be counting this as one of my 52 Hikes. But, it was a nice diversion at the end of a work day/work week. More relevant hikes to come this weekend.

The best laid plans? This weekend was supposed to be hike 29 and 30, hiking from Woody Gap to Neels Gap. The plan was to hike from Woody to Woods Hole Shelter Saturday and then Woods Hole to Neels Gap Sunday. Would have been about a 7 / 4 mile split between the two. The reality ended up being a single 12 mile day and a few lessons learned. So, this weekend was #hike29 of my #52hikechallenge2022 .
- I posted more details and some lessons learned here

Quote from Rob6 on August 29, 2022, 9:24 pmThat's certainly more ambitious than I was as far as hiking goes. I spent much of the weekend getting household chores done, and then a round of disc golf. No additions to my 52 hike goal. Sigh....

Quote from nathanu on August 30, 2022, 7:38 pm@rob6 I was really hoping to split it into two trips (29 and 30) and, hindsight being 20/20 should have, but ended up doing it all at once. Lots of lessons learned this time out.

Quote from nathanu on September 9, 2022, 12:52 am#hike30 of my #52hikechallenge2022 is officially on the books. Had a nice trip up Pine Mountain today and, when I started, felt sure I was gonna get soaked before it was all over with. Not the case though and got some nice views from the top AND saw a small snake hanging out at the rocks. Noticed on my way down that pumpkin spice season is upon us. Today was a good day.

Quote from Rob6 on September 12, 2022, 9:26 pmPumpkin spice has taken over the world. Even the company I buy my car wash supplies from has made pumpkin spice versions of their products.
I have made it up to #37 on my 52 Hike Challenge tally. Some of them might not be considered "traditional" hikes. Last week I was on vacation at the Outer Banks and every day I walked several miles up the beach which is contained within the Currituck Banks Reserve. And the "Adventure Series" that I signed up for lists "Ocean Hikes" as one of the varieties of hikes to complete in order to meet all the requirements, so, I'm counting them. There were no hiking shoes or boots, no backpacks, no 10 essentials. Bare feet, a swimsuit and sunglasses were my only equipment. And it was glorious!

Quote from nathanu on September 13, 2022, 11:53 pmGot a few trail miles in today and logged #hike31 of my #52hikechallenge2022. Awesome trip up the mountain and you can definitely tell fall is in the air. It was mild, even in the sun, and there was a breeze most of the way. Seems a lot of other folks also like this time of year cause the trail was busy. Met some folks at the summit, made a few radio contacts and passed several folks on the way down. Also, seeing more of the metal signs. They're cool, don't get me wrong, but it just seems weird to see "hiking pole trail" or "hiking boot trail" rather than just the sea foam and red blazes.

Quote from Rob6 on September 19, 2022, 10:42 pmHike #38 in the books. 5 miles in the McCalls Ferry Nature Preserve along the Susquehanna River. This one was an "Introduced a Friend to Hiking" on the Adventure series checklist. They don't include "foraging", but this would have qualified for that too. You can read some more about this trip in the Hiking section of the forum.

Quote from nathanu on September 26, 2022, 2:07 amLogged #hike32 and #hike33 of my #52hikechallenge2022 this weekend hiking from Neels Gap to Tesnatee Gap and camped at Baggs Creek Gap. The original plan was Neels to Hog Pen and camping at Wolf Laurel Top but plans changed a little. All in all, an awesome hike and I met a thru hiker at the campsite who was three days from finishing at Springer, so some very cool conversation about thru hiking the AT. I abandoned Wolf Laurel Top and moved on to Baggs Creek basically because I arrived before 3:00pm and wasn't ready to call it a day. I came out at Tesnatee rather than Hog Pen because my knee was giving me problems and there's a pretty steep climb out of Tesnatee. The rocks seem to be getting real at this point but so do the views, so a trade off. Also passed the "Tree of Soles" at Mountain Crossings, which seemed like a milestone. This trip was also my first serious encounter with yellow jackets. I learned that they are fast, sneaky and apparently always pissed off. Very cool trip.
