I've done a bit of kayak camping, but I don't know your neck of the woods (water 🙂 ) at all. I've read some accounts of kayak camping trips on the Suwanee and I've been intrigued (although paddling around alligators gives me some pause . . . here in Maryland, we're not used to having to share the water with creatures that can kill us, LOL!)
Quite a few years back, while visiting the Outer Banks (North Carolina), I did a guided paddle trip, in a rented boat, in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. We saw one alligator, and very nearly didn't see him, he was sitting so low and quiet. Our guide estimated his size and said he was just a youngster. My mind immediately wandered to "What if I accidentally bashed him with my paddle? What if I capsized right on top of him?" All the nightmare scenarios that I know, rationally, are exceedingly unlikely to happen. 🙂 It was very cool to see him.
