The discussions by @maxinem and @rob6 in the other thread prompted me to remember our family beginnings into the sport. It started for me with a basic canoeing class at our local park. Got to be friends with the instructor then ended up getting my own 17' Grumman canoe as a HS graduation gift. Used it for white water as well as calm paddling. It is still part of the quiver and its most recent outing was a paddle camping trip into the Okefenokee Swamp.
Fast forward a couple of decades and we introduced our boys to paddling on trips to snorkel with the manatees in FL where we rented recreational kayaks. And like others, our boys were hooked. We have now gotten each of them kayaks as HS graduation gifts ( our current combined family quiver sits at 7 kayaks and the canoe).
Most recently my wife has gotten renewed interest as she purchased her first SUP and now we are making the rounds to local state parks to see what each has to offer.
