Anyone been to the store Public Lands?
Quote from nathanu on October 30, 2022, 6:01 pmI have seen a lot of advertising recently for a store called Public Lands and (oddly enough) there's one opening in my area across the street from REI. I'm a member and pretty big fan of REI but I'm going to check out Public Lands grand opening sale to see what it's all about. Wondering if any of y'all had been or knew anything about it.

Quote from nathanu on October 31, 2022, 8:09 pmSo, I went to the grand opening shin dig and the first thing that hit me is that it's physically attached to Dicks Sporting Goods (the one in Kennesaw, GA). Not just sharing a wall, but there's a huge opening adjoining Dicks and Public Lands. That's not a big deal and I've got nothing against Dicks but it seemed a little odd that the only mention of Dicks on the Public Lands Store website was literally the very last line on the page where it says "...The Public Lands Fund is a program of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation...".
Ultimately, Dicks Sporting Goods has a store right across the street from my local REI. I visited the store a long time ago on a quest for a pair of Salomon shoes when REI didn't have them. I looked around but just wasn't a fan. The Public Lands Store is literally the same store, same basically everything but it's re-branded. I will say that they do have an impressive inventory of footwear (including the Salomon shoes I was looking for way back when), backpacks (including the standard Osprey, Gregory, etc. but also Mystery Ranch and Hyperlite) and tents.
At the end of the day, I think that I'll probably use that as an "if I need it now and REI doesn't have it I'll drive across to Public Lands and see if they have it" kindof thing but it just kindof rubbed me the wrong way to see all of the hype and then find out that it's just a rebranding of 1/2 of the local Dicks Sporting Goods.

Quote from flipflop on November 3, 2022, 9:26 pmI havent heard of them but just went to their website. I tried to look for stores but you have to enter an address, it wont let you just see a list of stores. I thought that was weird. I am pretty new to all of this and like REI. The prices are about the same as I can find on Amazon but I can touch it before I buy it.
